A woman was physically attacked and robbed by five men near the Lincoln Park Zoo on Wednesday evening, Chicago police said. The offenders remain on the loose.
It happened around 9:35 p.m. in the 2100 block of North Lincoln Park West, the street that runs along the west edge of the park from Fullerton.
A 25-year-old woman was outside when a gold sedan pulled up, and about five robbers stepped out of the car. They struck her in the face, took her valuables, and then headed south in the vehicle, according to a police spokesperson.
Police said the group did not display weapons or imply that they were armed.
After the attack, the woman sought help at a nearby restaurant. Officers who responded to the call said the robbers were Black males between 17 and 19 years old who wore ski masks. Their car is an older model with tinted windows, front bumper damage, and dents around the vehicle.
Area Three detectives are handling the investigation.
On Saturday, several DePaul University students were assaulted and robbed during a crime spree on and near the school’s Lincoln Park campus.
Later that day, the school’s president acknowledged the “sad reality” of crime in Chicago.
“Chicago continues to face ongoing challenges with criminal activity across the city. We must acknowledge this sad reality and respond accordingly,” President Robert L. Manuel wrote in a statement to the school community.
Manuel said the school had “filed our concerns with the mayor, police commander and elected officials.”
