Chicago police say a man found with a gunshot wound outside the Damen Blue Line station may have accidentally shot himself.
Police responded to calls of a person shot at the CTA station at 1558 North Damen just before 9 p.m. Monday. They found a 24-year-old man sitting on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his left hand.
He initially told officers that he was shot while exiting the CTA station.
“After further investigation, it appears to be self-inflicted,” CPD said in a brief media statement.
Officers recovered a handgun from the victim. A source said he is licensed to own firearms in the state but did not appear to have a concealed carry license.
