Homeless man stabbed while sleeping near Kennedy Expressway ramp

CHICAGO — A homeless man was stabbed while sleeping near an expressway ramp in Logan Square overnight. Chicago police say he’s going to be okay, but the assailant remains at large.

The 50-year-old victim told police he was sleeping on a sidewalk when the offender woke him up and started stabbing him with a knife around 2:05 a.m., a CPD media statement said. After the attacker fled, the victim walked to a nearby gas station for help.

Police said he is in good condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with stab wounds under his left arm and in the ribs and a laceration on his nose.

CPD surveillance cameras caught footage of the assailant ditching a jacket near the crime scene before making his getaway. Police did not release a description of the offender.
