A Chicago man has been charged with firing a gun at a driver during a road rage confrontation on the Dan Ryan Expressway over the summer. Tyrone Booker, 33, was detained to await trial by Judge Charles Beach.

Officials said Booker was in the passenger seat of his brother’s Hyundai as they headed outbound near 26th Street around 10:47 p.m. on July 21. Booker’s brother tried to cut off the victim, but the victim prevented it, and that led to the confrontation, Beach said in his detention order.

The Hyundai pulled up next to the victim’s car, and Booker fired three shots from a 9-millimeter handgun, striking the man’s car three times but causing no injuries, prosecutors said.

Another driver’s dashcam captured footage of the incident. Investigators also found gunshot residue on the passenger side of the Hyundai, according to prosecutors.

Booker admitted he was in his brother’s car, according to a state police report, but he claimed to have nothing to do with the shooting. Investigators said Booker hung up when they told him they wanted to discuss the incident. He never answered six follow-up calls, the police said.

The FBI Fugitive Task Force and state police special agents tracked Booker down and arrested him. He is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle.
