Man killed by drive-by shooter in Rogers Park

CHICAGO — A 36-year-old man was shot and killed by a drive-by gunman in Rogers Park on Friday evening, Chicago police said.

The victim was sitting in an SUV in the 7600 block of North Greenview when another vehicle pulled up around 8:39 p.m. Police said the driver of the other vehicle fired into the victim’s vehicle, striking him in the face and body.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Steven B. Brown of Blue Island.

Brown is the 29th person shot in Rogers Park this year, down slightly from 30 at this point last year but higher than 21 victims in 2021.

A rekindled gang war drove shooting numbers higher this year, but Brown was the first person shot in the neighborhood since September 10.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
