CHICAGO — For years, the CTA has been offering free rides to help partiers get home safely from New Year’s Eve celebrations. A Chicago law firm is going further by providing $20 Uber credits to people who may need a ride home from this weekend’s festivities.
“A DUI can cost someone their license, their car, their job, and as much as $75,000, not including any injuries or even deaths that could occur from an accident,” attorney Larry Disparti, founder of Disparti Law Group, said in a media release announcing the offer.
Disparti’s firm said they will give away 1,000 vouchers worth $20 toward an Uber ride on Sunday evening or Monday morning at www.ridefreenye.com. After signing up, Uber will place a $20 voucher on your account, good toward a ride between 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
“New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous nights of the year when it comes to intoxicated drivers,” the company’s press release said, adding that the intention of the offer is to get people home from parties safely.
“If you plan on celebrating the New Year with alcohol, please accept our ride home,” Disparti said in the company’s press release.
The $20 credits are good toward a single one-way ride to a “safe destination” in the Chicago metro area during the hours listed on the voucher, according to the firm’s website.
