2 armed robberies reported within an hour in the West Loop

CHICAGO — Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred within an hour overnight in the West Loop.

Both robberies involved four or five men who jumped out of a maroon Dodge Durango with Texas license plates to rob victims on the street, according to Chicago police reports.

In the first incident, two women were walking in the 900 block of West Lake when the crew confronted them and struck them in the head around 2:45 a.m., police said. The crew took their purses, phones, and other items at gunpoint and then escaped in the SUV.

About 30 minutes later, four men got out of the same SUV, displayed at least two guns, and robbed another victim near the 500 block of West Jackson.

Officers at both scenes described the robbers as Black males in their 20s wearing ski masks.
