Drive-by gunman shoots 2 people near Wrigley Field

CHICAGO — Two men were injured by a drive-by gunman near Wrigley Field overnight.

Chicago police said the victims, both 27 years old, were walking in the 900 block of West Grace when the gunman shot at them from a brown sedan around 2:31 a.m.

EMS took one of the men to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition with a gunshot wound to his right leg, according to CPD. The other man declined medical attention for a graze wound to his leg.

At least one window on a nearby home was also struck by a bullet. No injuries were reported inside the house.

The men are the eighth and ninth people shot in Lakeview this year. Before this morning, the most recent shooting was in the 1100 block of West Eddy on November 19.

At this point last year, 16 people had been shot in Lakeview. The neighborhood had 11 shooting victims at this point in 2021. Other recent shooting totals for the neighborhood include eight in 2020, five in 2019, one in 2018, three in 2017, and 16 in 2016.

The total for 2020 includes one police shooting and two unintentional self-inflicted injuries.
