CHICAGO — Shots were fired as a group of people brawled outside a hotel near the Magnificent Mile on Sunday evening, but no injuries were reported. Video of the incident, recorded from a nearby highrise, quickly began circulating online.
The footage, posted by the Citizen App, shows about eight people fighting in the 200 block of East Ontario around 10:20 p.m.
As the fight continues, a man wearing a white baseball hat and white long-sleeve shirt peels away from the group and walks toward the right side of the frame. He appears to pull a firearm from his waistband as he walks.
The fight appears to grow as the man in the white hat scurries between two parked cars. Five gunshots are heard, and the crowd scatters. Just before the video ends, the man is seen peering around the side of a parked car with a gun extended in front of him. A sixth shot is heard, and the clip ends. Watch:
Chicago police officers were not immediately able to find anyone interested in signing complaints. The cops did pick up several shell casings as evidence, though. As the sun rose this morning, some nearby residents awakened to discover bullet holes in their windows.
Detectives have not determined if the fight and gunfire are linked to an event that was underway at a nearby function hall.
Witnesses described the gunman as a Black male wearing a white hoodie who headed toward Michigan Avenue.
