17-year-old beat, robbed, carjacked man in Chinatown: Chicago police

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy was one of the people who carjacked, robbed, and physically attacked a driver in Chinatown earlier this month, Chicago police say.

The victim, a 21-year-old man, was in a parking garage in the 200 block of West Cermak when the carjackers confronted him around 8:30 p.m. on January 3. He later told police that three men attacked him, implied they had a gun, and took his Porsche, according to a CPD report. They also took his wallet and phone.

Members of the Chicago Police Department’s vehicular hijacking task force arrested the 17-year-old in the 3200 block of West 87th Street on Wednesday, police said.

He is charged with vehicular hijacking, aggravated robbery, and aggravated battery in a public place. No other details are available about him or his history because he is a juvenile, and that information is shielded by state law.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
