CHICAGO — Armed robbers who fired a shot while mugging two men in West Town overnight are in custody after Chicago cops pinged one of the victims’ phones to locate the offenders in River North.
The victims, ages 39 and 52, were walking in the 400 block of North Ogden when the robbers confronted them on the street around 1:20 a.m., a CPD spokesperson said. Both robbers displayed guns and demanded the victims’ property. The men complied.
At that point, the spokesperson said, one of the robbers fired a gun into the air before they both entered a silver SUV and drove away. No injuries or property damage were reported, police said.
Officers were able to quickly track one of the victims’ phones as it headed into River North. Cops went to the location and arrested one suspect near Hubbard and Wells and the other near Ohio and Franklin.
Charges are pending.
