Man shot, critically injured while driving in Andersonville, Chicago police say

CHICAGO — A man is in critical condition after another driver shot him during a road rage incident in Andersonville on Sunday evening, officials said. Chicago police have a suspect in custody.

The shooting occurred as the 35-year-old victim was trying to make a U-turn in the 1600 block of West Foster around 7:55 p.m. As he made the maneuver, the offender stepped out of a Chevy Tahoe and fired shots at him, according to a CPD media statement.

A bullet struck the victim in the jaw. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. Cops took the suspect into custody and recovered a firearm at the scene.

Police did not say what may have caused the gunman to become angry with the victim. The first 911 calls from the scene reported that an accident had occurred. Calls of a shooting quickly followed.

The shooting is the first in nearly six months for the Edgewater community area. A total of five people were shot in Edgewater during 2023, down from ten people shot in 2022.
