Crew robbed 9 people in 45 minutes on North Side, Chicago police say (video)

Chicago police have released surveillance video of another robbery crew that detectives have linked to multiple muggings on the North Side. CPD has warned about nearly a dozen robbery crews over the past month, often including video of the suspects. That’s a departure from the police department’s long-standing practice of withholding video from the public in all but the rarest of cases.

The latest video shows two angles of a robbery unfolding in the 1900 block of West Hood in West Rogers Park around 6:52 a.m. on February 21. According to CPD, the crew committed nine robberies within 45 minutes that morning.

All the victims were walking when they saw a white Kia with Illinois plates pull up. Two men got out of the vehicle to confront the victims while an accomplice stayed in the driver’s seat, police said. The robbers struck several of the victims, either with their hands or some kind of blunt object, including the woman seen in the video.

CPD said the group committed robberies that morning in the

  • 3400 block of West Waveland at 6:30 a.m.
  • 3100 block of West Grace at 6:40 a.m.
  • 1900 block of West Hood at 6:52 a.m.
  • 2600 block of West Berwyn at 6:55 a.m.
  • 6300 block of North Paulina at 7 a.m.
  • 1400 block of West Rosemont at 7:05 a.m.
  • 6900 block of North Sheridan at 7:11 a.m.
  • 1400 block of West Arthur at 7:15 a.m.
  • 1300 block of West Loyola between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m.

In a statement released with the video, police said the suspects are three Black or Hispanic men between 18 and 25 years old wearing hoodies and dark face coverings.
