Woman robbed, sexually assaulted near UIC campus

CHICAGO — A woman was robbed and sexually assaulted near the University of Illinois-Chicago campus on Saturday evening, according to the school’s police department. UICPD said the victim is not affiliated with the school.

The woman was in a small plaza at 908 West Harrison when a stranger grabbed her just after 8 p.m. He touched her private areas and robbed her, the school said in an alert emailed to the UIC community. He was last seen heading north on foot.

UICPD described the assailant as “a male wearing an army green jacket, light blue jeans with distressed holes at the knees, and white gym shoes.”

The school’s alert encouraged people to remain aware of their surroundings.

“Use all your senses to be alert for danger, and when walking alone, don’t wear headphones or earbuds,” the notification said.

UICPD is handling the robbery and sexual assault investigation. They can be reached at 312-996-2830.
