3 plumbing contractors robbed on UIC campus, school’s police department says

CHICAGO — Three plumbing contractors were robbed at gunpoint while working a job on the University of Illinois-Chicago campus Wednesday morning, according to a bulletin from the school’s police department.

The victims were in the loading dock area behind UIC’s Center for Structural Biology, 1100 South Ashland, when three robbers approached them around 7 a.m. UICPD said one robber displayed a gun and demanded property, while a second robber implied he had a weapon, too. The third robber collected property from the victims, and the group fled in a black Jeep, heading south on Ashland, the school’s bulletin said.

UICPD described the suspects as males between 5’4″ and 5’6″ tall, wearing dark clothing and masks. Chicago police officers initially dispatched to the call said the robbers were Black. UIC typically eliminates race from descriptions of criminals it provides to the public.

According to the school’s announcement, the Jeep is a Grand Cherokee with a broken passenger-side window, possibly bearing Illinois license plate V275933.
