Woman shot while walking dog in Uptown

CHICAGO — A woman was shot while walking her dog near in Uptown overnight, Chicago police said. No one is in custody.

The 21-year-old was on the sidewalk with her dog in the 1300 block of West Sunnyside when someone fired shots at her from a silver SUV around 12:38 a.m., according to a brief CPD media statement. She suffered gunshot wounds to her left leg.

She returned to her nearby apartment and her boyfriend called 911. EMS took her to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition.

Police offered no other details and provided no motive for the shooting.

The woman is the second person shot in Uptown this year. The neighborhood had three shooting victims at this point last year and four during the period in 2022.
