15-year-old fired gun while robbing woman in Logan Square, police say

CHICAGO — Police say a 15-year-old boy fired shots while robbing a woman with an accomplice in Logan Square on Friday afternoon. Within 20 minutes of the holdup, Chicago police officers arrested both robbers.

The 30-year-old victim was in the 3100 block of North Christiana when the 15-year-old, accompanied by a 17-year-old boy, confronted her around 2:20 p.m.

They took the woman’s purse at gunpoint, and the 15-year-old fired shots during the mugging, but no injuries were reported, according to a CPD report.

Officers searched the area and stopped the boys in the 3400 block of North Albany because they matched the descriptions provided by the victim. She confirmed they were the robbers, and the police took them into custody.

Police recovered a firearm during the arrests.

Prosecutors charged the 15-year-old with discharging a firearm during an armed robbery, aggravated assault by discharging a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21, and possession of ammunition.

The 17-year-old is charged with armed robbery and misdemeanor obstruction of identification.

No other information is available about the teens because their cases are filed in juvenile court.
