CHICAGO — Two men were shot and killed in an Albany Park alley on Friday night, Chicago police said. The gunmen may have torched their getaway car in Uptown shortly after the shooting.

Police responded to calls of shots fired and found both victims dead in the east alley of the 4700 block of North Troy around 11:20 p.m. CPD said a 21-year-old man and another man in his 20s both suffered gunshot wounds to their heads.

Residents reported seeing men with guns chasing each other and firing shots, with at least one man hiding behind a trash can to get away from others.

Officers said they found up to 15 shell casings near the victims, with about 10 more behind the 4700 block of North Sawyer.

In a media statement, CPD said, “A witness related seeing a black sedan fleeing the area at a high rate of speed.” However, CPD officers reported that they briefly pursued an SUV that sped away from the area as they arrived.

About 45 minutes after the shooting, the Chicago Fire Department responded to a car fire in the 4100 block of North Kenmore. The vehicle, a stolen SUV, was set on fire by at least two men who fled the scene.

Investigators were working to see if there were connections between the burned-out car and the double homicide.
