Bucktown homeowners caught burglar red-handed, Chicago police report says

Manuel Andrade (Chicago Police Department, Multiplottr)

CHICAGO — A Humboldt Park man is charged with burglarizing a home and a garage in Bucktown early last Tuesday, according to a Chicago police report.

A 48-year-old homeowner called 911 around 1:30 a.m. upon discovering a burglar inside his home in the 2300 block of West Bloomingdale. The cops found the alleged burglar, Manuel Andrade, 39, hiding next to a barbecue grill on the victim’s patio, the report said.

Police found items Andrade allegedly removed from the victim’s residence on his person and on the patio, including a KitchenAid slicer and a computer. The homeowner provided police with a video of the break-in.

A 31-year-old man who lives a couple of doors down from the victim told police that he had video of Andrade burglarizing his garage, too. Andrade allegedly took “industrial bags” from the garage. The report said a 164-piece mechanic’s set, power tools, and other items were recovered at the scene.

Prosecutors charged Andrade with two counts of residential burglary, possession of burglary tools, and possessing drug paraphernalia. Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman released him from custody with instructions to stay away from the victims.
