CHICAGO — A group of armed robbers who robbed five people in Bucktown last Thursday morning returned to the neighborhood for an encore performance yesterday. The crew, once again traveling in a bluish-gray Dodge Durango, robbed three people in about 15 minutes this time.

Wearing masks and hoodies and displaying at least two guns, they robbed a construction worker of his phone in the 1900 block of North Wood around 5:45 a.m. Moments later, they robbed two men in the 2000 block of North Winchester, taking phones and wallets.

Police have said the gunmen have forced victims to reset phone passwords or provide access to banking apps. In a community alert issued after last week’s spree, CPD said the crew consists of four slim Black males between 18 and 25 years old, standing 5’6″ to 6 feet tall.

Like yesterday’s holdups, last week’s crimes occurred around sunrise, starting about 6 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Charleston. They also robbed victims in the 2000 block of North Leavitt, the 1900 block of North Hoyne, and a couple in the 2100 block of North Oakley.

Bucktown’s police district has recorded an 11% increase in robberies this year. That’s on top of a huge surge in 2023. Compared to 2020, robberies in the district are up 162%.
