Man, 68, shot by suspected home invader in Humboldt Park

CHICAGO — A 68-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park on Saturday evening, possibly when he encountered a home invader inside an apartment building. It happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Beach.

Chicago police said in a brief media statement that the 68-year-old “was near the rear of a residence when he was approached by an unknown offender who produced a handgun and fired shots.”

The man suffered a graze wound to his ear and was reported in fair condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to CPD.

We have learned that the gunman shot the victim at the entrance to a stairwell of an apartment building. The gunman had kicked down the door of a 21-year-old man’s apartment inside the building and may have encountered the older man as he fled, according to initial information from the scene.

The assailant left the area on a bicycle that had a blue front tire. Witnesses described him as Black, thin, 5’5″ to 5’7″ tall, wearing black clothing, and carrying a bookbag.
