Man shot, critically injured in West Loop

Chicago police are investigating after a man was found shot in the West Loop overnight.

CPD offered few details about the incident, other than to say they responded to a shots fired call and found the 31-year-old man on the ground in the 200 block of North Carpenter.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

According to CPD dispatch recordings, there were no calls of shots fired, but the victim personally called 911 to report that he had been shot. Officers did not find shell casings or other evidence at the scene.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
