CHICAGO — Police are looking for a man who stabbed another man at the Division Blue Line station in Wicker Park yesterday afternoon. There are indications that the attacker may be a disgruntled employee recently fired from a nearby grocery store.
A Chicago police spokesperson said officers were first called to Jewel-Osco, 1341 North Paulina, around 4:20 p.m., because a “known offender” was throwing items at an employee.
An individual familiar with the situation said the “known offender” is a Jewel employee who got fired shortly before the incident.
About 30 minutes later, a man got into an argument with a 39-year-old man in the Division Blue Line station’s mezzanine, police said. During the altercation, the first man pulled out a knife and stabbed the other in both legs, according to the CPD spokesperson. The attacker was last seen heading north on Ashland.
Police radio transmissions indicated that the victim was a CTA employee or security guard. The police spokesperson did not respond when asked to confirm the victim’s status as a CTA worker.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
An officer at the scene described the suspect as “a big dude,” standing 6’2″ tall and weighing 260 pounds. He was wearing an orange hoodie or sweater and carrying a duffle bag.
