12-year-old girl shot in Humboldt Park

CHICAGO — A 12-year-old girl was shot while riding in a car in Humboldt Park on Sunday night.

The girl was in a vehicle in the 2500 block of West Division when a car pulled up, and a gunman began shooting into the vehicle around 11 p.m. Bullets struck the driver’s side of the Honda Civic she was in. One bullet passed through her left calf and into her right leg, according to Chicago police.

The driver of the Honda immediately took her to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. CPD said she is in good condition.

The police did not release any suspect descriptions. 

As of last Wednesday, Humboldt Park has seen 45 shootings or murders this year, up from 44 at the same time last year. Those numbers are a significant improvement from previous years: 78 in 2022; 81 in 2021; 82 in 2020; 57 in 2019; and 66 in 2018.
