3 robberies reported in 15 minutes from the Loop to West Loop

CHICAGO — Police are investigating three robberies that unfolded within about 15 minutes overnight, starting downtown and ending near the West Loop. It is unclear if the cases are related.

First, two women were robbed at gunpoint outside Deja Vu Showgirls, 750 South Clinton, around 2:45 a.m. The women reported that three men, all wearing masks, displayed guns and took their purses. After the robbery, the men escaped in a black Chevy Malibu.

Then, just before 3 a.m., four masked and armed men robbed another man in the 700 block of South Dearborn, police said. They took his property at gunpoint and escaped in a white vehicle, possibly a Tesla.

Moments later, five men traveling in a small white sedan robbed a man at the BP station, 1600 West Van Buren. They were wearing black clothing and face masks.

Robbery reports are up 3% across Chicago this year, building on top of a 23% annual increase during 2023. Robberies are up 30% compared to 2020.

In the Central (1st) District, which handled the first two robberies this morning, reports are up 16% compared to last year and 54% compared to 2020.

The robbery at BP happened in the Near West (12th) District. Cases are up 5% this year and up 101% compared to 2020.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
