Dozens of shots fired during rolling shootout in Albany Park; bystander injured

CHICAGO — Gunmen in two cars sprayed dozens of shots at each other as they zoomed down an Albany Park street overnight, police said, leaving a 19-year-old bystander injured.

Cops taped off nearly three blocks around the area of Leland Avenue and Hamlin Avenue to protect dozens of shell casings and other evidence lying in the streets.

The shootout began around 1:30 a.m., and one round struck the 19-year-old in the shoulder as he parked in the 3600 block of West Leland, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition.

A witness said the gunmen fired rounds at each other from a white Dodge Durango and a gray SUV. So far, police have not released any suspect descriptions.
