CHICAGO — “Give me your money or I’ll kill you!” That’s what 27-year-old Joseph Wilson told a woman after walking up behind her in the 1900 block of West 38th Street around 1:15 p.m. on April 25, officials said this week.
When she refused to hand over her money, Wilson pistol-whipped the 30-year-old woman, leaving her with injuries on top of her head, on her face, and on her hands, a CPD report said. He and his accomplices allegedly got control of the woman’s purse and fled in a recently carjacked Nissan.
About ten minutes later, Wilson and the rest of his crew climbed out of the Nissan and robbed a 59-year-old man in the 3700 block of South Sangamon, prosecutors say.
“Where is the money?” Wilson allegedly asked, holding the man at gunpoint while his accomplices went through the man’s pockets, taking his wallet and phone.
During a detention hearing on Thursday, prosecutors told Judge Ankur Srivastava that police found video of Wilson wearing distinctive clothing as he got into his girlfriend’s car before the robberies. That car, officials said, was used by the people who carjacked the Nissan that was used in the robberies he is charged with. However, Wilson is not accused of participating in the carjacking.
Srivastava detained Wilson pending trial. He is charged with two counts of armed robbery.
