Man shot during struggle with armed robber on Far North Side

CHICAGO — A man was shot on Thursday night when he tried to grab an armed robber’s firearm on the Far North Side, police said.

The 24-year-old and his 28-year-old girlfriend were walking in the 7200 block of North Ridge when the robber confronted them around 9:04 p.m. Chicago police said the male victim tried to get ahold of the offender’s firearm, but it discharged, striking him in the hand. After getting wallets from the two victims, the robber fled.

A short time later, the injured man walked into Swedish Hospital for treatment. Police said he was in fair condition.

Officers who spoke with the victims described the gunman as a heavy-set Hispanic man who stands about 5’8″ tall. He wore a face mask and may have a tattoo of a lion or tiger on his left forearm.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
