CHICAGO — A drive-by gunman fired more than 40 shots in the South Loop last night, killing a man and injuring a woman. The shooting occurred about a half-block from Wintrust Arena.

Chicago police said a 26-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were on a sidewalk in the 100 block of East 21st Street when the shooter opened fire from a white SUV around 11:13 p.m. Witnesses reported that the SUV, possibly a Dodge, sped away from the scene, heading south on Indiana Avenue.

The male victim, shot in the chest and leg, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. The woman was in good condition at Northwestern with a gunshot wound to her leg, according to CPD.
