
CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was shot in Rogers Park on Halloween night, police say, making him the eighth person shot in the neighborhood during October.
Chicago police surveillance footage showed the gunman shooting from the southwest corner of Damen and Rogers around 7:50 p.m. The boy, who was standing in the area, suffered two gunshot wounds to the ankle, according to CPD. He was in good condition.
CPD stopped three people nearby for questioning, but they were subsequently released.
The gunman seen on video was a Black male wearing a black hoodie and black pants with white shoes, according to an officer who saw the footage.
Rogers Park has seen 27 shootings so far this year. That compares to 29 during the same period last year and 26 in 2022.
The other seven victims shot during October were targeted: on October 6 in the 1500 block of West Morse; on October 11 in the 1600 block of West Juneway Terrace; in the 1300 block of West Morse on October 20; and in the 1200 block of West Loyola on October 28. Three people were shot during a single incident in the 1600 block of West Howard on October 23.
