CHICAGO — Prosecutors have charged a man with murdering two of his former co-workers in an office at Navy Pier this week. Raylon East, 36, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

More details about the allegations will be revealed when East appears at a detention hearing this afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

On Tuesday afternoon, a pier security guard called 911 upon discovering the two victims down in an office area near a loading dock. The victims, men ages 47 and 51, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but their injuries were not survivable.

Investigators found video footage of the gunman walking off the pier around 1:25 p.m. and heading west on Illinois Street at McClurg Court.

CPD officers immediately identified East, recently fired from a food service job on the pier, as the prime suspect. But, when they were unable to locate him by midday Thursday, they released surveillance images of the gunman and asked the public to help find him. East turned himself in about three hours later at the Grand Crossing (3rd) District police station, 7040 South Cottage Grove.

Court records show East was convicted of armed robbery in 2008 and had a gun charge dropped in 2017.

CWBChicago will post a full update after East’s court appearance on Saturday.
