CHICAGO — Just three months after being given probation for trying to carjack a woman on the Northwest Side, Andrew Moran is back in jail, accused of trying to carjack another woman on the Northwest Side.
You may remember Moran, 27, from our story last year. His attempt to carjack a woman in the 4800 block of North Milwaukee failed because he got confused by the stick shift. Then he ran from the scene with the victim’s keys and the cops tracked him down by following the AirTag on her keychain.
On August 7, he pleaded guilty to attempted vehicular hijacking and aggravated battery of a peace officer, court records show. Judge Anjana Hansen gave him two years of mental health probation.
Now, prosecutors say Moran attacked and successfully carjacked another woman at the Shell service station, 4001 North Laramie, in Portage Park.
At about 8:30 p.m. on November 7, the third month anniversary of his guilty plea, Moran approached the woman at the gas pumps and announced a robbery, a Chicago police report said.
“You know what this is, give me your keys, b**ch,” he allegedly demanded.
Moran chased the woman into the service station’s convenience store, pinned her to the floor, took her keys, and then drove away with her 2010 Lexus RX350, according to the report.
A Chicago police officer recognized Moran in surveillance footage from the gas station. He turned himself in upon learning that he was wanted in connection with the crime.
Judge Anthony Calabrese detained Moran pending trial.
