CHICAGO — The man who was found shot in a car in Lakeview on Wednesday morning has died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which identified him as Tyric Edwards.
Police, citing initial information, said the 25-year-old was shot while inside a Nissan Altima in the 2900 block of North Pine Grove shortly after 3 a.m. CPD said Edwards may have been passing a gun back and forth with the woman when it “went off,” striking him in the head.
A woman called 911 to report the shooting. Police took her into custody. However, a CPD spokesperson said on Friday that she had been released without being charged.
EMS took Edwards to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries at 9:18 p.m. Thursday, according to the medical examiner. The office announced Saturday that he died from a gunshot wound and his death was ruled a homicide. As used by the medical examiner, “homicide” does not necessarily mean murder. Instead, it means that someone’s death was caused by another person, with or without criminal intent.
A source, citing preliminary information, told CWBChicago that Edwards was licensed to carry a concealed firearm.
