Attempted murder and carjacking charges filed against woman who allegedly stabbed 2 people during crime spree

Vanessa Delgado (Cook County Sheriff’s Office)

CHICAGO — A Cook County judge on Saturday detained a woman who’s accused of stabbing another woman during a carjacking and then stabbing a man after crashing the car minutes later.

Vanessa Delgado, 21, is facing multiple felony counts, including attempted murder, in connection with the incident, which began around 6:31 a.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of South Rutherford.

Police said Delgado stabbed a 41-year-old woman as she walked to her car and then drove away with the victim’s 2014 Nissan Rogue. The woman was critically injured in the attack.

About five minutes later, Delgado allegedly crashed the Rogue into parked cars on the 5100 block of South Mulligan. She proceeded to stab a 30-year-old man who stepped outside of his nearby home to see if she was OK, officials said. He was in good condition, according to CPD.

Members of the Chicago Fire Department who responded to the crash scene held the hijacker until CPD arrived to take her into custody. She was taken to be checked out at Holy Cross Hospital.

Judge Mary Marubio granted a detention petition, keeping Delgado in jail as a public safety risk. She’s charged with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. She faces one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking.
