Chicago police officers detained 10 suspects after three people were mugged by a group of attackers on the Red Line near Roosevelt on Sunday night. So far, no charges have been announced.
A CPD spokesperson said three boys, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds, were riding a northbound train when the group approached them around 9:30 p.m. At least one person in the group implied they had a gun as the mob beat and robbed the victims, the spokesperson said.
The robbers, all wearing dark clothing and masks, stole one victim’s shoes and took all of the boys’ phones.
While the victims exited the train to notify police, the robbers continued north until they reached Fullerton. Cops were following the signal from one of the victims’ stolen phones, so they were already near the Fullerton station when the robbers left.
Officers detained some suspects on the corner of Fullerton and Sheffield. They found even more when they tracked a second phone to the 2300 block of North Kenmore.
