CHICAGO — A jealous man lured his ex-girlfriend into his car and then shot her six times, later telling police that he only stopped shooting because he ran out of bullets, prosecutors said Friday.
Greiver Urbina-Romero, 27, was detained by Judge Torrie Corbin, who said he was “obsessing over” the 41-year-old woman and tried to evade responsibility by tossing the murder weapon into Lake Michigan.
The shooting occurred at 6:17 p.m. on January 5 in the 1100 block of South Monitor.
Prosecutors said Urbina-Romero went to his ex’s location after seeing her eating with a male co-worker. Upon arriving, he demanded that the woman come downstairs to talk with him. Officials said she agreed and got into his car to have the conversation.
When she did, Urbina-Romero allegedly pulled a gun. The woman bolted from the car in fear as Urbina-Romero shot her, causing 12 gunshot wounds with six bullets, according to the state’s detention petition.
“When asked why he shot the victim 6 times, the Defendant explained that he stopped because he ran out of bullets,” the petition said.
The victim remained hospitalized on Friday. Chicago cops arrested Urbina-Romero this week to face a charge of attempted murder.
