Female carjacker stabbed victim, crashed, then stabbed a second person in Garfield Ridge, police say

CHICAGO — A female carjacker took a woman’s car in Garfield Ridge and then stabbed a man who tried to help her after she crashed the hijacked SUV a few blocks away, Chicago police said Thursday morning. Fire department personnel pinned the hijacker at the crash scene and held her until cops arrived.

It all started in the 5100 block of South Rutherford around 6:31 a.m. CPD said a 41-year-old woman was walking to her car when the assailant stabbed her and drove away with her 2014 Nissan Rogue.

The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition with stab wounds to her chest and bicep, police said.

A few minutes later, the carjacker crashed the Rogue into parked cars in the 5100 block of South Mulligan. A 30-year-old man who lives nearby stepped outside with his baby to see if the woman was OK, according to information from a witness. As he did, the carjacker stabbed him in the back. EMS took him to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Members of the Chicago Fire Department who responded to the crash scene held the hijacker until CPD arrived to take her into custody. She was taken to be checked out at Holy Cross Hospital.
