CHICAGO — A hit-and-run driver killed a 66-year-old woman as she walked near her Ukrainian Village home on Friday morning, according to Chicago police. Now, CPD needs help finding the driver and the SUV that were involved.

Halyan Hudzan was walking southbound in a crosswalk when the driver of a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross struck her at Chicago Avenue and Oakley around 8:48 a.m., officials said.

A police report reviewed by CWBChicago said four witnesses spoke with CPD about the crash. They told cops that the SUV stopped at a red light and made a right turn, striking Hudzan. The report said the SUV ”paused and then continued to drive over” the woman, then headed east on Chicago Avenue. CPD said the car may have turned north on Damen Avenue.

Investigators also announced that the vehicle’s license plate is DH30095. Police records indicate that the car was reported stolen in Old Town on November 24, but it is unclear if its owner, who lives in the 2300 block of West Grand, has regained possession of it since then.

The Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case. They can be reached at 312-745-4521 regarding case #JJ125483.
