CHICAGO — A Chicago man who thought he found his stolen car at a Far South Side gas station suffered a gunshot wound in a shootout with the car’s occupants and then got charged with firing his weapon, according to court records.

The police went to Roseland Hospital on January 17 after Rodney Clemons, 23, walked in to be treated for gunshot wounds, according to his CPD arrest report. He told them he found his stolen Genesis at the BP station, 150 West 127th Street, and tried to confront the people in his car. The people shot him, he allegedly reported.

But when cops reviewed the gas station video, they saw something much different, the report said. Clemons arrived in the passenger seat of a Buick around noon, got out, and started shooting at the people in the Genesis, according to CPD. The occupants fired back.

The Genesis sped away, leaving Clemons without his car (again). Prosecutors charged him with aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle.

Judge Antara Rivera detained him at the state’s request.
