CHICAGO — Police are investigating two more armed robberies reported in Bucktown and West Town on Wednesday afternoon.
First, a 34-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint as she walked in the 1900 block of West Ohio around 4:01 p.m., according to a Chicago police spokesperson. She told cops that a blue sedan pulled up and two men jumped out to rob her. But when she started screaming, they returned to the car and drove away without getting anything, the spokesperson said.
Then, shortly after 6 p.m., a 33-year-old man was robbed in the 1700 block of West Crystal. Police said he was outside when a silver sedan pulled up and two men got out. They robbed him at gunpoint and then drove away.
Robbery sprees have surged since late November, with neighborhoods in the West Town and Near West Side particularly hard-hit. Six holdups were reported in the area on Friday. Two more waves rolled across the area on Saturday. CPD issued a couple of community alerts about some of the incidents earlier this month.
