CHICAGO — Prosecutors have charged a woman with killing her one-year-old daughter in their Humboldt Park home on December 20.

Marisol Vazquez, 37, is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Saturday afternoon. Officials will present additional details about the allegations in court.

Chicago police said in a media statement that officers arrested Vazquez on Thursday to face a first-degree murder charge in the death of the child.

Officers responded to Vazquez’s home in the 500 block of North Springfield around 8 a.m. on December 20 after a frantic woman called 911 asking for help. EMS transported the child to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:35 a.m.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the girl’s death was a homicide by asphyxiation and assault, according to records.
