CHICAGO — Two people were shot aboard a Red Line train near 35th Street on Thursday night: a 13-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man who has a Class X felony gun case pending in criminal court. In a media statement, Chicago police called both victims “uncooperative.”
Officers responded to the Sox-35th station after 911 callers reported a shooting on the train around 9:32 p.m. The police found the boy with a gunshot wound to his left arm and sent him via ambulance to Comer Children’s Hospital for treatment. CPD said he was in fair condition.
The police found the male victim in the area a short time later. He had a gunshot wound to his left bicep, according to CPD. Officers at the scene said he jumped off the ambulance and left the scene before being transported to a hospital.
An officer who reviewed CTA surveillance footage said the video showed a man jumping onto the 35th Street platform from the train before it stopped at the station. He ran from the area.
Cook County court records show that the adult victim was arrested about a year ago for allegedly having a firearm on the Red Line at Harrison. He is charged with armed habitual criminal, a crime the legislature recently renamed “unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender.” His next court date in that matter is slated for next week.
