Armed robbers mugged at least 4 people during hour-long spree in West Town and Humboldt Park

CHICAGO — Armed robbers targeted at least four people during an hour-long spree in West Town and Humboldt Park on Wednesday evening. While cops ultimately stopped and detained four suspects, Chicago police said on Thursday morning that no offenders were currently in custody for the crimes.

Each of the robberies involved three or four armed men who jumped out of stolen cars to mug their victims.

The holdups began around 7:52 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Carroll. A 30-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when a group of robbers exited a car and took his property at gunpoint, a CPD spokesperson said. The crew got away with the man’s backpack and phone.

Just a few minutes later, two men were robbed at gunpoint in the 1800 block of West Fulton. Once again, masked men surrounded the victims and took their valuables at gunpoint.

Then, at about 8:30 p.m., an SUV stopped in the 2700 block of West Division, and four gunmen got out to rob a 39-year-old man on the sidewalk, the police spokesperson said.

The spree involved two stolen cars, but it was unclear whether the crew changed cars or if there were two groups. Shortly after 9 p.m., cops stopped one of the stolen cars near Huron and Springfield and took four people into custody. However, authorities have not yet announced any charges against them.

The robbers were described as Black males wearing black clothing, hoodies, and face masks.
