A gunman left one woman dead and another injured inside a River North hotel on Saturday evening. Chicago police believe they know who the shooter is, and they are trying to locate him.
Officers found the first gunshot victim in the lobby at 369 West Grand around 8:26 p.m. The 29-year-old had a gunshot wound to her neck, but CPD said she is in good condition.
About 45 minutes later, the police entered a 30th-floor unit where the victim had been staying. They found a 32-year-old woman inside with a gunshot wound to her chest. Officers administered CPR and applied a chest seal, hoping to save the woman, but she did not survive.
The surviving victim told investigators she was shot by a man who fled in a tan van that headed east on Grand Avenue, according to CPD. Police have identified him by name and were trying to find him and the getaway van on Sunday morning, according to a source.
Online news reports indicate that the 29-year-old man was charged with robbing a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint in Iowa in 2010.
Saturday’s shootings are the first of the year for River North and the Near North Side as a whole. That’s generally on pace with recent years.
