CHICAGO — Officials say an eight-time convicted felon has been stealing packages from a business and condo building near his West Town home, getting away with items worth $10,000 in one case. The company promotes itself as an option to prevent package theft by acting as a middleman between delivery companies and recipients.
A Chicago police report said surveillance video and the results of a photo lineup led them to arrest 57-year-old Andrew Clark near his home in the 300 block of North Hoyne.
On March 18, Clark broke the glass door of a condo building in the 500 block of North Hoyne and then accessed the mailroom to steal a package, according to a CPD report.
He is also accused of burglarizing a business in the 2100 block of West Hubbard two times, once on February 11 and again on March 5.
During the first burglary, he allegedly broke into a storage unit and took various Amazon packages, the police report said.
On March 5, he stole a bunch of Amazon packages and a cart, according to a criminal complaint. The items stolen during this incident were allegedly valued at $10,000.
The targeted company has a website that offers to eliminate the risk of package theft from homes by working as the middleman between delivery companies and recipients.
Clark is charged with three counts of burglary. Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. released him on electronic monitoring.
According to court records, Clark had two burglary convictions in 2015 and one in 2019. He received a 20-year sentence for armed robbery in 2003 and seven years for armed robbery in 1997. In 1991, he received probation for robbery and aggravated battery.
