Body found in lot frequently used as homeless camp near the South Loop

CHICAGO — Police are conducting a death investigation after a badly decomposed body was found in an area frequently used as a homeless camp near the South Loop.

A man discovered the remains wrapped in a blanket in some bushes in the 1500 block of South Canal late Tuesday night. He walked to a nearby business and asked someone to call the police.

Officers said the individual initially appeared to be male, but they could not be sure. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
