CHICAGO — A drive-by shooter opened fire in the South Loop, killing a woman and injuring a man who were seated in a car, Chicago police said. Cops located a vehicle that may have been used by the gunman, detained the occupants, and recovered a firearm, according to a source.

Officers on patrol were flagged down just before midnight by a 38-year-old man who reported he and a woman had been shot inside a vehicle in the 100 block of East 21st Street. The police immediately called for medical services.

CPD said an 18-year-old woman in the car’s passenger seat died from two gunshot wounds to her chest. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his hand.

Investigators identified a car that may have been involved in the shooting. Cops in the Englewood (7th) District stopped the SUV near 63rd Street and Peoria Street just after 1 a.m. They detained everyone who was in the car and also found a gun inside the vehicle, a source said.

Detectives are now working to see if they can link the detained suspects to the murder.
