Robber beat 67-year-old victim with wrench, pistol and then left his own wallet behind: allegations

Andre Moses (Chicago Police Department)

CHICAGO — Prosecutors have charged a man with using a wrench and a gun to beat a man twice his age during an armed robbery and then accidentally leaving his own wallet at the crime scene.

The robbery occurred around 8:20 a.m. on February 10 in the 600 block of North Laramie, but Chicago police only recently arrested 36-year-old Andre Moses to face charges in the case.

Prosecutors said the 67-year-old victim was outside his home when Moses struck him in the head with a large crescent wrench and then chased him around a parked car and across the street for a couple of minutes.

Ultimately, Moses pushed the victim to the ground and proceeded to pistol-whip him twice on the right side of his head, according to a detention petition. Moses took the man’s keys and phone and drove away with his car, a Chicago police report said.

But he also left his wallet behind, and the victim confirmed that the man seen on a driver’s license in the wallet was the same guy who mugged him, officials say.

Investigators set up surveillance on Moses’ home last week and took him into custody to face charges of armed robbery and robbery of a victim older than 60, according to the report.

Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. granted the state’s detention petition, calling the attack “vicious.”
