CHICAGO — Prosecutors have filed charges in connection with the shooting of a 15-year-old during a “teen takeover” in Streeterville on March 28. The accused gunman is 14 years old.
Officials released few details about the boy or the specifics of what happened because he is charged in juvenile court, where the proceedings are shielded from the public.
We do know that a 15-year-old boy was shot in the 400 block of North Cityfront Plaza, outside the NBC Tower, around 9:41 p.m. as large groups of young people flooded the neighborhood.
According to CPD, officers heard shots fired around 9:41 p.m. and saw a large group of people running from the area. Video recorded from a nearby high-rise showed dozens of people running from behind NBC Tower and onto Columbus Drive and North Water Street after the shooting.

The cops found the boy with a graze wound to his leg. He was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in good condition. Officers found a single shell casing on the corner of Columbus and North Water, across from the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk Hotel.
The 14-year-old is charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
In the wake of the takeover and a similar incident in which a tourist was shot earlier in March, the City Council will soon consider an ordinance that could give Chicago police supervisors the authority to declare an early curfew for minors to gain control of future takeovers.
