Woman set up Facebook account to lure victim into carjacking trap: prosecutors

Diamond Fleming (Chicago Police Department)

CHICAGO — Prosecutors say a Chicago woman set up a Facebook account so she and her boyfriend could carjack a woman who was selling a car online.

Diamond Fleming, 21, was detained by Judge James Costello on a charge of aggravated vehicular hijacking. Charges have not been filed against anyone else.

During her detention hearing, prosecutors said Fleming created the social media profile and then lured in a 29-year-old woman who was selling a 2006 Hyundai Sonata online.

They said Fleming and her boyfriend met the woman in the 6700 block of South Paxton on January 27 to complete the deal. Fleming’s boyfriend brought along a gun that the couple used to carjack the victim, Judge Costello said in his detention order.

After the hijacking, Fleming allegedly blocked the victim’s Facebook account in an effort to avoid being identified. CPD said the victim subsequently picked Fleming out in a photo lineup.
